Overview

What was once called the Selous Game Reserve and now known as Nyerere National Park is one of Africa’s oldest protected wildlife areas and was proclaimed a protected area in 1896. It was established as a game reserve in 1922 and named after Sir Frederick Courtney Selous, a famous big game hunter, British officer, conservationist and explorer. Selous was killed while fighting the Germans in WW2, in the Beho Beho area of the game reserve.The reserve reached its current shape and size in the 1940’s, and in 1982, it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.It is one of the largest faunal reserves in the world, covering 50,000 km2.

Tour ITINERARY

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park

  • Depart from Dar es Salaam at first light and drive to Nyerere National Park. Arrive by late afternoon for dinner and overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 2: Nyerere National Park

  • Morning and lunch activities with all meals from the camp.

Day 3: Nyerere National Park

  • Whole day packed with activities and meals from the camp.

Day 4: Mikumi National Park

After breakfast depart for Mikumi National Park. Dinner and overnight at lodge or camp.

Day 5: Mikumi National Park

  • Full day Mikumi Park tour, dinner and overnight at lodge or camp

Day 6: Departure to Dar es Salaam

  • Optional morning activities such as birdwatching or a nature walk
  • Breakfast at your lodge or camp
  • Depart for Dar es Salaam, where your safari concludes
  • Transfer to the airport for your onward journey or extend your stay with optional activities
